Tadeusz Rozewicz, one of the most outstanding contemporary Polish poets and playwrights, died in the western city of Wroclaw on April 24, aged 92 from natural causes. He was one of the most innovative, versatile and creative authors of the Polish and international avant-garde. Rosewicz had written highly acclaimed volumes of poetry, over a dozen plays and several screenplays. In addition to plays and poetry, he was the author of novels, short stories, and works of nonfiction. He became a key figure in Poland’s “Theater of the Absurd,” as exemplified by his debut play “Kartoteka” [“The Card Index”] in 1960.
